Whether or not you follow the news on a regular basis, it is good to try to stay somewhat in touch with what is happening in your area and around the world. That being said, it is also possible to over-consume news which can have a negative effect on your mental health – so be aware of that and find a happy medium. If you haven’t read or watched much news lately, here are 3 things that have happened recently to help catch you up real quick.
MonkeyPox
With Covid-19 still a major concern for many people and mask mandates going back into effect in many areas, there is a new virus to worry about. Monkeypox seems to be a serious concern and although it spreads differently than Covid-19, it seems to spread pretty easily. Recently, New York declared a health emergency because of it, so be careful out there and do as much research as possible so that you can stay informed and know what to expect.
After going through the pandemic during 2020 – which still isn’t over – hopefully, people have learned a thing or two about contagious viruses and how they work. Unfortunately, it’s looking like monkeypox could change the way we do things once again. Luckily, we have the convenience of the internet to place online orders for everything from replacement parts to groceries without having to go into stores.
Celebrity Deaths
As with any other year, 2022 has brought several different deaths of celebrities. Bob Saget, Vin Scully, Ivana Trump, and most recently Olivia Newton-John have all passed away within the last year. Online you can read many tributes about them or learn more about their work or causes of death in case you are curious.
Overturn Of Roe V. Wade:
Most women and feminists were recently up in arms and even took to the streets in many cities recently over the federal overturn of Roe V. Wade, which was keeping abortions federally legal in some situations. Read more about Ukraine, and Russia accusing each other of nuclear plant strikes.
As upsetting as this news was for many people, states are still voting individually on whether or not safe abortions will remain legal in their states or become banned. Kansas most recently voted to keep abortions legal in their state, but you never know what may happen elsewhere so it is a good idea to try to keep up with the news on this topic.
Whether you’re Yamaha replacement parts, sitting at the DMV, or have a long commute on the train, take advantage of your fleeting boredom by taking a moment to catch up on a little local, national, and global news. It’s great to take a break from the news for a short period of time, but in the end, there are things that actually might affect you that you will want to know as soon as they happen. Hopefully, this has helped bring you up to speed!
