It is amazing how many little things we do just by habit. We apply a piece of plastic film over the top of a container of hot food. Usually, as we are securing the plastic film in place, we say something like “I don’t want this to cool off”. This statement tells us that, unconsciously, we know that plain ordinary kitchen plastic film has some sort of insulating value.
Just imagine for a moment, the energy savings that could be realized by applying a layer of specially made insulating film on all of the windows in your home. This insulating film is capable of preventing about fifty percent of the heat in your home from escaping through the window panes during the winter time. During the summer months, the opposite happens. These insulating films readily reflect the sun’s rays away from the windows. Just think of the comfort that this will provide for you and your family.
Energy efficient insulating window films are not that expensive. Since your home’s winter heat is blocked form escaping through the windows and the summer’s hot sun is stopped before it can enter your windows, your energy savings for heating and cooling your home should easily pay for them the first year. Glare reducing films, which as the name suggests, reduces glare and thereby make computer screens and televisions easier to see. Privacy films can be frosted or translucent. Mirrored films allow you to look outside but no one can see inside. And finally static cling films, which are available in black, decrease the light that can enter the room.
Whatever type of insulating window film you choose, it will give you a more comfortable home in which to live; winter or summer.
