Brief Encounter tickets are now on sale for the new arrival of the highly anticipated play. The Broadway production is based on the Noel Coward 1945 movie of the same name, considered one of Britain’s finest piece of filmmaking. The movie is actually based on Coward’s earlier one-act stage play “Still Life” from 1936. So we have a stage play turned into a screen play and now adapted back into a stage play. The movie was a huge success and one which are still talked about today making the Broadway play the talk of New York’s fall openings along the Great White Way.
The Roundabout Theatre Company brings the London’s Kneehigh Theatre’s West End London production to Broadway at the Studio 54 Theatre. The play has garnered great praise and success in its London home at the Cinema Haymarket. In 2008 the Kneehigh Theatre adapted the screen play with Emma Rice (director) to create a mixture of film and stage play. The play enjoyed a brief tour through the UK before it opened in February of 2008 at the “Haymarket.” The play closed at its London home on November 2008 and went out on another tour lasting 27 weeks. The leading cast for the UK run included Amanda Lawrence, Tamzin Griffin, Tristan Sturrock and Naomi Frederick in the lead roles.
In September of 2009 the play made it’s U.S. debut in San Francisco at the American Conservatory Theater. It enjoyed a successful run before closing later that year in October. Emma rice’s adaptation began selling Brief Encounter tickets for the Brooklyn, NY shows which played at the St. Ann’s Warehouse in December 2009 and January of 2010. The run sold out all of its Brooklyn performances and on September 28, 2010 will open on Broadway at the Studio 54 Theatre for a limited-run closing on December 5, 2010.
Brief Encounter tickets are already on sale at the box office for all Broadway show times.
