John Kerry, the US Secretary of State nominee went on record for an extremely hawkish stand on Iran, conveying that he would leave no stones unturned to ensure ‘sanctions’ against Iran.
US historically has been using ‘Sanctions’ and ‘Embargos’ before it goes to war over any nation. Iran seems to be no different a case this time, with the hawkish John Kerry around.
Nevertheless the economic situation of US would make it quiet near impossible for it to send troops to its own bases even, let alone wage war on any other country.
For the first time in its history US is hard pushed to back its financial instruments with real value goods and commodities, and is almost on the brink of being bullied by China which had lent US more than $1 trillion.
It is in this circumstances comes the new US Secretary of State Nominee John Kerry’s categorical statement on Thursday that he would be totally committed to sanctions against Iran.
During his confirmation hearing before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, he also said he was hopeful of making political progress with Tehran:
“Iran continues, I say this to the Iranians and I hope they will listen, they have continually professed the peacefulness of their program.”
Kerry, a Vietnam veteran, added: “It is not hard to prove a peaceful program. Other nations have done that and do it every day.”
He has been slammed by critics in the past for being too soft on Iran and failing to discourage President Ahmadinejad from pursuing a nuclear programme.
